Dinamo “Plug and Play”
With Dinamo it is possible to control both analog and digital DC locomotives. The train system consists of TM44, each with a 4-block connection with a maximum of 4 sections per block. The advantage is that power supply and feedback are accommodated in the TM44.
By placing the modules under the track where they are needed, the cabling is minimized.

Dinamo P&P consists of only 3 different modules:

  • RM-U: The central controller that takes care of all communication between the modules and with the PC;
  • TM44: Control of analog and digital trains. A module controls 4 blocks and detects a train in 4 sections per block;
  • OC32: Control of all accessories on and around the railroad track.

Block control with the TM44
The TM44 is a module for controlling the trains on your track and reporting back the positions of your trains. The TM44 is part of the “Dinamo Plug and Play” concept, but can also be used in an existing Dinamo system if required.

All connections on the TM44 consist of connectors with screw connections or “clip” terminals. This means that you do not have to solder to connect the TM44.

Control of blocks
The TM44 provides outputs for controlling 4 blocks individually and independently. The control of a block can be analog or digital. The switch between analog and digital is done Dinamic under the control of the RM-U module, so that your analog and digital trains can run together.

Train detection
Each block output of the TM44 is split into 4 sections for position detection of trains by means of current detection, so that accurate positioning of trains can be achieved in all cases. In contrast to many other occupancy detectors, the current detection of the TM44 is completely symmetrical. That is, the same electronics are included in the line of both rails for detection to take place. This increases the reliability and accuracy of detection on the block transitions during turning loops.

Analog trains
The analogue trains are controlled via pulse width modulation. This method of steering ensures good driving behavior of your equipment, provided that it is technically reasonable. With pulse width control, you can easily drive at creep speed under that condition. You can of course drive both ‘forwards’ and ‘backwards’. The 63 speed steps per driving direction ensure that equipment with different characteristics can be controlled in such a way that natural driving behavior is always obtained.

Permanent lighting (analogue)
The TM44 provides (if desired) the permanent lighting of rolling stock. The lighting is done with an alternating voltage of approximately 18 kHz and the level is adjustable in 16 steps. The permanent lighting can be switched on and off per block (of course also Dinamic again). When controlling that permanent lighting, even the lighting of your locs can be switched directionally. The latter requires a simple auxiliary switch in your locomotive.

Digital trains
With digital control, the TM44 provides the digital power for each block and the DCC packages for the trains. The DCC packets are generated separately per block and only for the train that is in that block. The advantage of such a solution is that this method is extremely ‘scalable’. Up to 10 DCC packets can be generated per block, sufficient for multiple locs (multi-traction), steering positions and other matters.

Short circuit protection
The TM44 is short-circuit protected. As soon as the current exceeds 2A, the controller switches off the voltage (individually per block) within a few microseconds and on again within 10 milliseconds as soon as the overload has been removed. Any overloading is signaled to the controlling computer.

Power Supply
The TM44 requires only a single supply of 8..24V DC. The supply voltage offered is the voltage that will be placed on the rails for the trains. As a rule, a voltage of 15.18V is a good choice.

Communication
The communication between RM-U and TM44s takes place via a serial connection based on RS485. This allows you to bridge large distances (up to 1200 meters), so that you can mount the TM44 modules close to the blocks that the module controls. That saves a lot of cabling. With the network connection you have the choice of making your own connection cable or using standard RJ45 connection cables.

Intelligent control with the RM-U
The RM-U controller is in fact the intelligent heart of the DINAMO control system. The RM-U takes care of communication with the control computer and then controls other modules in your system.

Functions
The RM-U offers the following functions:

  • Communication with a computer via USB
  • Control of up to 32 TM44 block controllers for synchronized control of 128 blocks and reading in up to 512 occupancy detectors
  • Serial control of a maximum of 16 OC32 modules for a maximum of 512 extra outputs
  • Driving up to 16 UCCI controllers for driving 32 MCC transmit loops and reading up to 2048 reed contacts

Note: The address space of the TM44 and UCCI controllers is overlapping. This means that you can connect a total of 16 of these units, with a pair of TM44s counting as one unit in the case of the TM44.

Reliable communication with subsystems
The RM-U ensures fast and reliable communication with and distribution of work across the connected modules. This relieves the PC of all kinds of time-critical processes and can focus on the actual functional control of the model railway.
The RM-U ensures, among other things, the synchronization between the different TM44s. The RM-U therefore behaves as a block unit for 128 blocks for the controlling PC. In addition, you can link blocks to each other with commands and of course disconnect them again. Each action performed on the first block is followed simultaneously by the linked blocks. This always leads to a smooth takeover of the train between two blocks. Moreover, this also works with loops: The infamous loops with 2-rail systems are now definitely a thing of the past!
The RM-U can also accelerate and decelerate blocks with analogue (pulse width modulation) control with a specified acceleration / deceleration and desired end speed. If blocks are linked, the linked blocks naturally perform the acceleration / deceleration simultaneously.
